About
Cybertesis.NET
This
Portal, developed by the University of Chile (Information
Services & Library System), provides an easily accessible
tool to full text electronic thesis published in different
universities of the world.
Cybertesis.NET
is a powerful tool of consultation that allows to make simultaneous
searches through a single Web interface, and to recuperate
more than 27.000 full text theses stored in 27 different servers
and university repositories, by means of the use of OAI protocol
(Open Archives Initiative) as a service provider (metadata
harvesting).
Each
university is responsible of the production, preservation
and diffusion of its theses.
Besides,
our university has implemented an Electronic Thesis Publication
Program (Cyberdocs). The great innovation of this initiative
is the integration of high standards in the production and
electronic text transference. The technological platform is
based on the use of open source softwares and international
standards of production and transfer of electronic texts:
XML, Dublin Core Metadata and Open Archives Initiative (OAI).
Cyberdocs permits the conversion of theses written by students
in proprietary formats into structured format (XML) automatically
due to the application of a style sheet.
The
Cybertesis program is the result of a project of cooperation
between the Université de Montréal, the Université
de Lyon2, the University of Chile and 32 universities of Europe,
Africa and Chile.
